Braga nasuta (Cymothoidae): an ectoparasite of the Giant Amazonian fish Arapaima gigas (Osteoglossidae) fingerlings cultured in the Amazon region in Northern Brazil Biological Sciences
Jesus, Elson Cardoso de; Cardoso, Lucas; Ferreira, Tamiris Henrique; Martins, Mauricio Laterça; Rodrigues, Marília Danyelle Nunes.
Isopods Cymothoidae are organisms that parasitize several fish species, both marine and freshwater, provoking important physiological alterations and secondary infections. The genus Braga was proposed to harbor three species of parasitic isopods in freshwater fish from South America: B. brasiliensis, B. cichlae and B. nasuta. Posteriorly, other four species were included: B. patagonica, B. amapaensis, B. fluviatilis and B. bachmanni. Regarding the geographical distribution of the genus, there are registers in Brazil, Argentina, Suriname and Paraguay. In this study, 3,625 fingerlings of pirarucu Arapaima gigas were examined from a commercial fish farm in the Amazon region, Pará State, to observe and identify possible parasites. A total of eleven...

DNA barcoding: a molecular appliance for fish species identification support Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Tresbach, Rafael Hencke; Cerqueira, Natalia Menezes; Medeiros, Sarah Ramos; Gutierrez, Harold Julián Pérez; Hernández, Natalia Ossa; Rodrigues, Marília Danyelle Nunes.
The identification of genus and species is made by systematic, by noticing morphological and anatomical characteres which were the phenotype expression. However, changes in one or more gene bases can result in phenotypes similarities between different species, inducing an identification error. Alternatively, molecular appliances based in mithocondrial and ribosomal genes appeared. This study aims to compile information about the molecular identification and present the South American Catfish (Rhamdia quelen) case, for which there is controversy generated by taxonomy identification. The different genes used to identification have their particularities, like insertions and deletions on the case of 16S rRNA and the 18S rRNA. Besides these ribosomal genes,...
